When to Use:
Before a stressful event
(ie. social event, when you are starting a long-term commitment or project, when you have a stressful week coming up)
During moments of intense stress
(ie. when you feel emotionally drained or feel a loss of drive, when experiencing negative self-talk, or emotional spiral)
After a period of stress
(ie. when feeling lingering negative emotions or reflecting on challenging events)
How to Use:
Identify the Issue: Focus on the specific stressor (e.g., “I’m feeling overwhelmed by my homework load” or “I’m anxious about my upcoming presentation”).
Rate the Intensity: Rate the intensity of your stress on a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 is the highest level of stress.
Start Tapping Sequence: (Tapping Sequence located in tool download below)
Use your fingertips to tap gently on the a spesific sequence of meridian points while focusing on the issue during the first cycle.Say Affirmations: While tapping in the 2nd cycle, say statements that acknowledge the stress and provide self-compassion, such as: “Even though I feel overwhelmed by my workload, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Reassess: After a round of practice, rate your stress again. If needed, repeat the process until the intensity lowers and you feel more relaxed.
Purpose:
EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a self-help tool that combines elements of cognitive therapy with acupressure. Often referred to as "tapping," this technique involves tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a stressful thought or emotion. It is designed to help you release negative emotions, reduce stress, and improve emotional regulation. By addressing both the emotional and physical aspects of stress, EFT helps to alleviate the mental and physical burdens associated with social and overload stress, allowing you to feel more grounded and in control.
Science:
Regulates Emotions: EFT helps reduce stress by calming the nervous system, lowering cortisol levels, and promoting emotional stability.
Rewires Thought Patterns: Tapping on acupressure points while focusing on distressing thoughts can disrupt negative neural pathways, making room for more balanced thinking.
Enhances Mind-Body Connection: By combining physical movement with cognitive reframing, EFT strengthens self-awareness and emotional resilience.
